Introduction
This lessons of this book will focus on what is necessary to become a stron chess player and hopefully obtain the title of master. The important topics are:
1) You need an opening repertoire which fits your style and in which you have great confidence. This will be the subject of the first three lessons, in which a very solid opening repertoire will be introduced, featuring the Torre Attack, Caro-Kann and Nimzo-Indian Defenses...
The other topics will be covered in the final lesson:
2) You need to be able to think strategically. That is, you need to have a strong feel for where to put your pieces, know how to take advantage of structurual weaknesses and be able to form a plan...
3) You must be very sharp tactically. The best way to improve is to practice finding combinations. Buy a book on combinations and when you have a few spare moments, try to solve a few positions.
4) You need to have strong nerves and be able to deal with adversity, be it time trouble or a devastating loss.
5) You should get a good feel for how to play endings.
