Unter dem Namen "Starting out" erscheint hier gleich eine ganze Reihe von neuen Büchern, die jeweils speziell für schwächere Spieler eine bestimmte Eröffnung anschaulich und gut verständlich aufbereiten.
Darüber hinaus liegt uns auch schon der zweite Band vor, der sich mit der sizilianischen Verteidigung beschäftigt. Das oben gesagte (siehe "LOGALTKI") gilt praktisch auch unverändert für "The Sicilian".
Wieder hat man mit John Emms einen prominenten Autoren mit dieser nicht ganz einfachen Aufgabe betraut, und wieder gelingt es diesem, die Eröffnung und ihre verschiedenen Varianten klar und leicht verständlich zu vermitteln.
Der Aufbau entspricht fast dem Vorgänger: Wieder gibt es zu jedem Abschnitt Einführungen in die jeweilige Variante, die weiteren Strategien für beide Seiten werden hier jedoch in einem speziellen Abschnitt besprochen.
Es folgen wiederum Ergänzungen zu Theorieumfang und Statistiken sowie natürlich die kommentierten Musterpartien, diesmal sind es 59 in 26 "Hauptvarianten".
Alles an allem kann man beiden Büchern eine sehr schöne und anschauliche Zusammenfassung der ausufernden Theorie bescheinigen, die ein sinnvolles, weil auf Verständnis beruhendes Erlernen der Eröffnungen ermöglichen.
Auch die Vielfalt und Tiefe des Materials dürfte vielen Spielern für längere Zeit ausreichen, bevor dann der Weg zu einem intensiveren Eröffnungsstudium zu spezieller Eröffnungsliteratur führen wird.
Übrigens sind bereits weitere Bände der "Starting out" - Reihe über Französisch, Nimzo-Indisch, Caro-Kann und Damengambit in Vorbereitung.
