Life, Learned Through the Game of Baduk

There are ten principles handed down from ancient times, that we should bear in mind to become a good player: don't be so greedy to win; don't rush toward the opponent's territory in full vigor; be aware of your own weakness before making an attack; take the initiative; sacrifice the small for the big; drop useless stones resolutely in case of emergency; don't act in haste; grasp the opponent's situation and cope with it; keep the balance; and don't be stubborn when isolated. These teachings are applicable, not only to Baduk, but also for a wise and peaceful life. We are able to learn lessons through Baduk that will lead to harmonious and joyful lives with others. If you have taken the first step with Baduk, Made Fun and Easy Vol. 1 , now take the next step with this book!

Chihyung Nam started learning Baduk at the age of 10 and became a professional player in Hankuk Kiwon (Korean Baduk Association) at 15. She majored in English literature in Seoul National University and received her MA with a thesis on Arthurian Romance. For more than a decade, she has been a TV commentator in KBS, EBS, BadukTV, etc., and also a Baduk journalist for the Sports Seoul (Daily). From the age 28 on, she has been teaching as an associate professor in the Department of Baduk Studies in Myongji University of Korea. The major research fields of her study are history and culture of Baduk. She is the author of Junsuk In Our Times (2000), Contemporary Go Terms (2005), and Baduk, Made Fun and Easy Vol.1 (2006). She also wrote several papers on Baduk history and rules. She is currently writing the on-going series of Baduk articles, "Baduk, Made Fun and Easy" for the Koreatimes.
