Feng Yun is not only one of the strongest professional go players in the world; she is also an outstanding teacher with an unusual ability to effectively communicate high level analysis to amateur players. In this book she thoroughly examines two amateur games which provide an excellent vehicle for her teaching method. Studying this book will show you how a strong pro thinks about the game and start you in the direction of thinking that way yourself.

Foreword

In the short time that Feng Yun, 9 dan professional, has been in the United States, she has achieved a reputation as a popular and effective teacher and lecturer for players of all strengths. Her no-nonsense approach to finding the strongest, most severe moves is balanced by her keen sense of humor. The former you will find clearly demonstrated in this book; the latter you will find delightfully demonstrated in her lectures.
This book contains detailed analyses of two amateur games, based on a series of lectures presented by Feng Yun to the Hoboken Go Club in New Jersey in 2002-2003.
In order to make the analysis easier to follow and enjoy, each diagram shows very few moves, with many variations shown separately. Thus it is not necessary to set the games up on a board in order to study them effectively, although doing so allows one to consider the variations more thoroughly. Careful study of the ideas and thought processes presented here will increase your understanding and enjoyment of this wonderful game.
