Overview
Each of the 33 database surveys on this CD-Rom, on a wide variety of opening variations as published in the Yearbooks, comes complete with all previous surveys (including annotated games) on that same variation: total 65. This provides you with a unique overview of a variation's development.
Database
A database with in excess of 38,000 games and their sources offers you a total overview of all the games previously published in the Yearbooks (starting with Volume I - 1982)
NicBase and PGN-Format
The KEY VIEWER allows you to replay all these non-annotated games sorted by opening. These games are in NICBASE 3 format. They are accompanied by a text file in PGN format.
Printing
Each game, including annotated games, can easily be printed if you have Windows or 98 on your computer. This allows you to create your own private collection of important games.
Analyzing
You are able to conduct your own analysis and can ask the chess computer you have installed (Fritz, Rebel) for an assessment of each move or variation in a game, or of your own analysis.
Extras
This CD-Rom is an independent Windows program which is very easy to install. It also contains an extensive search facility and a clear help function.
Language
All annotated games are in symbolic language, with a key in English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish and Swedish. The help function is in English, German and Dutch. The other texts, e.g. the data base surveys, are in English.

New
·All chess moves (highlighted in blue) in the narrative text can be activated by a mouse click. This will produce the corresponding position on the chess board.
Every quoted game (highlighted in yellow) can be loaded and insantly replayed by clicking on it with the mouse. On exiting the game the program will automatically return to the text.

Auch im neuesten Jahrbuch von New in Chess erwartet den Leser wieder allerhand Neues aus der großmeisterlichen Theorieküche. Seit Band 50 wird das Yearbook auch auf CD angeboten, und diese Version wollen wir hier kurz vorstellen. Das Yearbook ist mit einer selbständig lauffähigen Oberfläche ausgestattet, die folgendes zu bieten hat:
Eine Einführung über die Arbeit mit dem Yearbook.
Eine kurze Inhaltsangabe, den "Key Viewer" mit einer systematischen Aufschlüsselung der Eröffnungen, über die zugehörige Partien bequem geöffnet werden können.
Den "Game Viewer" mit Suchfunktionen für alle Partiedaten. Aus der Liste der dazu gefundenen Partien kann man sich dann die Partien auswählen, die man mit dem Partiebetrachter anschauen möchte.
Die "Surveys": Hier finden Sie eine Liste aller enthaltenen Übersichten. Neben 35 neuen zu verschiedenen Eröffnungen (Beispiele: 7. Lf4 im Grünfeldinder, neuer Aufbau gegen die alte Hauptvariante im Scheveninger System, Najdorf mit 6. Le3 e5, Wolga-Gambit mit 5. b6, 8. ... Da5 gegen 7. Dg4 in der Winawer-Variante) sind auch alle älteren Surveys (insgesamt 43) zu diesen Abspielen enthalten. In diesen Surveys werden die jeweils wichtigsten Entwicklungen zusammengefaát und auf entsprechende Partien verwiesen, die einfach per Mausklick geöffnet werden können.
Unter "Theory" gibt es Analysen zu folgenden Abspielen: Sveshnikov mit 15. Lb5, 5. Sa4 im Grünfeldinder und angenommenes Königsgambit. Zum Abschluß hält das "Forum" noch ein kleines Sammelsurium interessanter Eröffnungsideen bereit.
Das Yearbook 51 bietet also wieder reichlich Material. Dazu noch zwei Zahlen: Über 38 000 Partien wurden hierfür zusammengestellt, davon über 800 knapp kommentiert. Alle Texte mit Ausnahme der auch in Deutsch vorliegenden Einführung sind übrigens in Englisch verfaßt. Diese Angaben beziehen sich wie gesagt auf die uns vorliegende CD-Version, die 21,- Euro kostet, es gibt aber auch nach wie vor das Yearbook als gebundene bzw. kartonierte Ausgabe zu 28,- bzw. 21,- Euro.
