Sergey Belavenyets and Nikolai Ryumin were two of the more influential and active players in the USSR during the 1930s when the Soviet Chess School was developing at a rapid rate. Both of them died prematurely, one of natural causes and the other during the Second World War and so we will never know how far they could have progressed and how much influence they might have exercised.
This book presents, in English for the first time, the story of their chess careers and a selection of their best games. The detailed comments to their games bring to life two very different styles of play; Belavenyets was a positional player and Ryumin a tactician.
