The Nimzo-Indian Defence is an ideal fighting defence to 1 d4. Black immediately seeks to create pawn weaknesses in his opponent's position in order to exploit these in the middlegame and endgame. In the resulting positions, both sides have clear strategic objectives and the result is decided by the skills of the two players in realising these objectives.
·Favourite opening of such great players as Aron Nimzowitsch, Mikhail Botvinnik and Bobby Fischer
·Concentrates on explaining the plans for both sides
·Complete illustrative games to demonstrate the key concepts
·Deals with every important variation
For players with a limited time to study opening variations, this book will ensure a satisfactory and interesting middlegame position and a good knowledge of how it should be handled. This new edition includes an additional chapter on important new ideas which brings the material right up to date.
Grandmaster Raymond Keene has represented England on top board in the Chess Olympics. He is chess correspondent of The Times and the Spectator and a regular presenter of chess on television.
Shaun Taulbut is an International Master and former European Junior Champion. He has written a number of successful chess books including 'How to Play the Ruy Lopez' and, most recently, 'Winning with the Scandinavian' (with Ron Harman).
