Introduction
This semi-final of the 26th USSR Championship was played in September/October 1958 with a strong field of young players making their names in the chess world. The games were published in an edition of 8 copies by the Latvian Chess Federation (a top copy and 7 carbon copies, by the looks of things). I have copy number 3 but it is, unfortunately, missing a page (the pages are not bound). This page contains the end of game 32 plus the whole of games 33-35, which I have been unable to find elsewhere. In fact, I have been unable to find any report of the tournament in Shakhmatny Bulletin.
The draw was:
Korchnoi
Simagin
Peterson
Byvshev
Grushevsky
Gufeld
Osnos
Bastrikov
Shaposhnikov
Katalimov
Gipslis
Rubel
Geller
Vladimirov
Tarasov
Holmov
The top four finishers progressed to the 26th Championship: Holmov, Geller, Korchnoi and Gufeld.
