Theorie auf anderer Wellenlänge
Wiederum 1. ... e6, aber ein völliges Kontrastprogramm zum vorigen Titel (Hagen Tiemann: Die Französische Verteidigung 3.Sc3). Anhand von dramatischen Kurzpartien aus allen Zeiten präsentiert der Autor Französisch als ein Feld voller Überraschungen. Enthalten sind sieben Partien (gut drei Seiten) mit Kurt Richters überfallartigem 5. Lxf6 Lxf6 6. e5, das Flügelgambit ist mit drei Partien vertreten.
Nicht zuletzt wegen der abenteuerlichen Mischung und der Analyse-Anstöße des starken IM Minev ist das Buch enorm anregend. Im Vorwort schreibt der Autor, er habe 1980 an dem Französisch-Teil von ECO C mitgearbeitet, und er sei damals überrascht gewesen, wieviele interessante Ideen von Nicht-GMs herausgelassen wurden. Minevs Werk hat in der Darstellung der Systeme Lücken und kann den "Watson" (Play the French) nicht ersetzen, ist aber auf anderer Wellenlänge eine ideale Ergänzung.
