Ratmir Holmov was born in the USSR in 1925 and after World War 2 he developed into a very strong Grandmaster who competed mainly within the USSR. He was Champion of Lithuania ten times and competed in sixteen USSR Championships between 1948 and 1972, finishing first equal on one occasion.

This book presents 64 of his best games from a career spanning fifty years. Most of the great players of the second half of the twentieth century are to be found here among his victims.

His style of play was intuitive and tactical. His best games are tense and highly complicated and are presented here with in-depth comments.
