Grandmaster Henrique Mecking (born 1952 in Santa Cruz, Brazil) is the best world class chessplayer to come from South or Latin America. His style of play was demanding and his preparation legendary. By playing the sharpest lines and making massive physical exertions - he was the perfectionist in search of the best moves like his USA counterpart Bobby Fischer; Mecking's best games are so smooth as to appear effortless. III for 15 years, in 1992-1993 Mecking attempted a return to chess in two matches and one tournament. 344 of his games (the most complete record available) are presented giving us an account of the play and times of the former enfant terrible of chess, an appelation which appears largely unjustified according to researcher and USCF Chess Master Stephen Gordon based on his many trips to the famous J.G. White chess collection in Cleveland, Ohio.
