Superman! Lasker held the title from 1894 into 1921. He became or remained world chess champion in matches with Steinitz, MarshalI, Tarrasch, Schlechter, and Janowski. During his world championship reign he took eight firsts, including one tie, out of ten events.
His endgame skill was legendary and his tactical ability would have been rated about 2800. GM Andrew Soltis said Lasker' s openings, and their preparation, were "ahead of his time." As a chess psychologist World Champion Alexander Alekhine later said he learned what he needed to know from Lasker!
This monograph examines Lasker' s wins in his early years plus a number of simultaneous and exhibition games taken mainly from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle.
