Celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Amber chess tournament, once again twelve world-class players set out to produce magnificent and exciting games for the chess-loving public. And indeed, sponsor Joop van Oosterom and his family can look back to a great event.
This edition's champion was Vladimir Kramnik. He took the lead from day one and dominated the field. Still, he had to fight until the very end to protect his position against the competition of former winners Viswanathan Anand and Vassily Ivanchuk, and nobody was an easy catch: Gata Kamsky and Anatoly Karpov, preparing for their coming match, Joel Lautier, Alexei Shirov, Jeroen Piket, Judit Polgar, Predrag Nikolic, Ljubomir Ljubojevic and newcomer Xie Jun battled hard for every point.
Read this tournament book by Guido den Breeder and John Nunn to find out all about it.
