PREFACE:
This new book is a selection of the best articles from the theoretical Spanish magazine TEORIA, that appears every two months. Most of the articles, from GM's such as the Croatian Bogdan Lalic, the Rumanian Mihai Suba, the Cubans Reynaldo Vera and Amador Rodríguez, the Columbian Alonso Zapata, and the Spaniard Alfonso Romero, IM's such as the Spaniard Jesús De la Villa, the Swedish Jaan Eslon, etc. have been updated since they were first published in the magazine. There are in total 19 articles.
This book, totally dedicated to the study of openings, bearing in mind the following points:
·A clear presentation of the ideas behind the openings, avoiding the excessive use of variations and subvariations.
·Up to date variations. Recent model games are given.
·We give special emphasis to the strategic ideas and the historic development of each particular variation up to date.
·New ideas with each author giving personal thoughts and "putting his head on the block".
·An author's introduction and summary
Generally speaking, the idea of this book is unique. When you begin to study a particular variation you like the layout to be simple and clear, that the main variations are well divided, and that there are only a few, but well chosen games relevant to the subject. But above all you like the author to explain the strategic ideas behind the moves, something that sadly seems to be being phased out. It's necessary to help readers to understand why ideas happen at a particular moment rather than the mechanical acceptance of studied theory. This is the true meaning of this book!
