Understanding Pawn Play in Chess ist ein ausgezeichnetes Lehrbuch des Positionsspiels. Behandelt werden die Themen isolierter Bauern, hängende Bauern, Freibauern, Doppelbauern, rückständige Bauern, Bauernketten und Bauerninseln. Jedes Kapitel beginnt mit einer ausführlichen Einleitung, danach folgt der Hauptteil mit vielen gut kommentierten Partien und am Ende rundet eine Zusammenfassung den jeweiligen Abschnitt ab.
Das Buch enthält 122 Partien aus der Turnierprxis fast aller berühmten Schachmeister bis zum Jahre 1999.
Fazit: Sehr lehrreich und sehr unterhaltam, für fortgeschrittene Schachfreunde mit englischen Sprachkenntnissen ohne Einschränkung empfehlenswert.
